ACCOMMODATION
PLEASE, NOTE. To minimise all the hassle and possible duplicate or triplicate work, we would like inform all the delegates that you are asked to deal with Conference Kuopio staff on all the accommodation matters if you have booked accommodation as part of the registration procedure. If yours is the DIY accommodation booking option, then you are asked to deal straight with the hotel, hostel or any other selected accommodation option. Not a big deal but helps with the workload here in Savo. And those booked to stay in university guest rooms should contact Japo Jussila in case of any accommodation related challenges.
UNIVERSITY GUEST ROOMS ARE FULLY BOOKED! The housing is apartment style and rooms come with sheets, towels, tv, internet access, etc. There is a possibility for extra beds at least in solo and triplet rooms. There are also shared kitchen (fridge, oven, microwave, coffee maker and all the tableware (i.e. better equipped than my home!)), toilet, shower, laundry machine & dryer facilities in each complex of three rooms (1, 2 and 3 person rooms). Prices are 230€ per person per week or 40€ per person per day. The rooms have been pre-reserved for 2 - 9 August. Your bookings to Japo Jussila, please. Payement details will be given later, personally to the lucky ones (well, nothing to do with luck here, it is all down to professionalism).
We will offer you symposium rates for listed hotels and, of course, you also have an opportunity for DIY style of travel. We recommend selected IAA 17 symposium hotels for rates, availability and location. Anyways, feel free to follow your instincts. Early August is still relaxed holiday season in Finland and especially in Europe and tourists will be everywhere, so those interested in DIY travel are advised act now (or yesterday).
There seems to be a need for very basic (=budget price), youth hostel type accommodation. There are only limited options available, but here is a start: Hostelli Hermanni. Check also these options: Hostel Pressa (hostelpressa@sakky.fi) and Youth Hostel Virkkula (retkeilymaja@kuopionsteinerkoulu.fi). The websites of latter two hostels are hard-to-use interface, and the eeeemail might be the way to go. There could be more options added later, do not hesitate to drop in.

RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATION
FINLANDIA HOTEL JAHTIHOVI (Snellmaninkatu 23, Kuopio)
Jahtihovi hotel is a small cozy hotel located on a peaceful street at the heart of Kuopio. It is close to the marketplace and the passenger harbor. The hotel is non-smoking. All the rooms have broadband access and there is also a free internet corner at the Reception. Restaurant serves a dinner for hotel customers, other times restaurant is open only by an arrangement.

CUMULUS KUOPIO (Puijonkatu 32, Kuopio)
The comfortable Cumulus Kuopio hotel with cozy atmosphere and friendly service is
right in the heart of town, close to the marketplace. Hotel is close to the bus and the railway station. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel.

BEST WESTERN HOTEL SAVONIA (Sammakkolammentie 2, Kuopio)
Hotel Savonia is the nearest hotel to the University of Kuopio. The cozy hotel with refurbished rooms and friendly service will ensure a pleasant stay. Hotel Savonia is close to the Puijo recreation area and the Puijonlaakso Shopping Center is located next to the hotel.

SPA HOTEL RAUHALAHTI (Katiskaniementie 8, Kuopio)

Accommodation cancellation policy: Accommodation cancellation before July 4, 2008 can be done with accommodation fees fully refunded. After July 4, 2008 no accommodation fees will be refunded in case of cancellation.
